Tablet or tablet is an electronic device that serves as a laptop, allowing the user to connect to the internet and run programs (email, Facebook, Twitter, among others) in a faster, easier and more convenient way. It is a device like a smartphone, but being a bit bigger and heavier.

This device is a device that combines functions of a PC with functions of a smartphone. PCs, apart from being used to surf the internet, are mostly used to carry out work (Microsoft Office, for example) and telephones, apart from making calls and SMS, have the functions of Apps. The Tablet combines these two functions and more, making it very useful.

Depending on the model and version, it has the ability to take photos, store a large amount of multimedia, games, personal documents. Due to its size, it is also widely used to read e-books and make video calls. And depending on the model, even making calls.

What is a Tablet used for?

It is certainly an innovation. It is the marriage between the functions of the PC and the functions and comfort of the smartphone. With this, you get a laptop that allows you to surf the Internet through a wireless network (WI-FI) and run programs of interest (documents, games, multimedia …).

The size of this device is smaller than a laptop, but larger than a phone. It works with a simple touch screen and in some cases, it has a button in the center at the bottom. These features make it very useful when doing work or watching a movie on a long trip. Is used for:

  • Navigate in Internet. As if it were a computer, you can surf the internet quickly and comfortably. There is no difference with the computer, it will only depend on the type of page. But speed can be better.
  • View and edit documents. There are times in life when you need to do important work but don’t have a PC within reach. With tablets, working outside the home and office is possible. Although it is uncomfortable to use, it is useful for desperate moments. It is also ideally sized for viewing digital books.
  • Long trips are also good for watching movies. Netflix offers the movies and the device offers the convenience. You can also listen to music, take and view photos and videos. Besides, it has a suitable size for making video calls.
  • Not everything is work. It is also used to play. With downloading a few games from the official store (Android, IOS, Mac, depends on the model) the days of boredom are over and smartphone games never looked better.
  • The GPS App can be used. Its size helps to have a better amplitude of the map and better visualize the routes.
  • Calls and SMS. It depends on the model, these devices can be used like any phone, which allows you to make calls and send text messages, as if it were any phone, only bigger and heavier.

Advantages and disadvantages

With the evolution of technological devices, older devices are being displaced. In this case, the tablet is slowly displacing fixed computers. It is true that PCs have their advantages, such as the keyboard and mouse, which are very comfortable tools when preparing a document.

But it also has disadvantages, such as its size. PCs are very uncomfortable to move, apart from the fact that they are not portable. For its part, the Tablet at times will not be comfortable to write, but it is when moving outside the home.

Here are some advantages and disadvantages of its use:

  • They may not be compatible with PC functions, but you have the necessary ones and that is enough. It has a lower cost than computers, allowing the user to live an experience equal to or better than that of PCs at a lower cost.
  • Apps are more associated with the phone, but nowadays we also associate it with tablets. Depending on the version of the software, we can have any application.
  • Quick setup. When turning on the device for the first time, it is very easy and quick to turn on and configure the machine. Its ignition is like that of a mobile phone.
  • It is very comfortable and very easy to move, its size and weight make it easy to transport in a backpack to work or university, making the device not noticeable.
  • Autonomy. Thanks to its programs, the battery tends to last a little longer than a smartphone. They do not have any use restrictions. It allows you to do any task, as long as the model and version allow it.

  • It does not support the use of Windows suite applications based on the ARM architecture. Some Apps, like Microsoft Word, can be downloaded depending on the version and model.
  • Less comfort to work. If necessary, it is good for making documents, but it is not comfortable when writing. Its small touch keyboard makes it fast and efficient to write. Although the keyboard and mouse are sold separately, the convenience of transport is lost and the price increases.
  • There are cases in which the screen is not quite large, causing the user to repeatedly expand the content. Obtaining a larger tablet makes it expensive.
  • Storage capacity. Computers have a much greater capacity than a tablet. Their capacity is less because they use SSD hard drives or eMMC memories. You can expand the storage with the use of external devices, but that would increase its price.
  • Calculation power. The processors have the necessary capacity for the functions of the programs, limiting some executions of Apps. Computationally speaking, they are less powerful.
  • There are pages that cannot be run in the same way as you would on a PC.
  • Upgrade. PC hardware will always be better when upgrading. While that of a tablet is more complicated, it will not be done automatically.

Without a doubt, they are one of the best technological innovations that exist in the world. Its comfort and simplicity make any technology industry, such as Apple, Sony, Samsung, among others, have their own tablets, competing every day in the market.

This technology little by little displaces fixed computers, but computers also evolve so as not to be left behind. Their comfort makes them increasingly in demand, having in turn more technological advances.
